This jewel has so much going for it, I hardly no where to start. It's so very seldom you ever find a Joseph's coat to be even reach one inch in diameter, and this one is a full 1 and 3/16" plus a little bit more. Also, there are so many colors: two or three distinct shades of orange and at least that many greens, plus light and dark blue, as well as yellow and white.
Both of the pontail marks are unfinished, which helps to determine the date as circa 1880-1910. CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) 8.9 I have seen many marbles that were proclaimed to be in mint condition that weren't near as nice as this one. The surface has the wet, shiny look that you expect from a mint marble and the pontail marks are as clean as the day it was made; in fact, all I can see, and that only with the aid of a bright light and lens, are a couple of small discreet places that look like they may have been slightly buffed to take the edge of of a surface air bubble or something. Even these enlarged pictures don't show them. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 30.27mm or 1.191" at the equator. | |||||
