Here is one you seldom see: A very large old German handmade saphire blue clearie with mica.
There are an inordinate amouont of air bubbles floating around near and beneath the surface to which many have much smaller than usual flecks of mica--much more than the pictures are able to show. Another feature of this marble is, for a mica, the huge size of well over an inch. There are not enough of these larger examples around to call any of them common, but this is the only blue one I've had in a long long time, and I don't remember ever having come across the saphire blue in this size at all. And to repeat the rare word one more time, is to refer to the wonderful mint condition that you almost never see with this type. The fifth and sixth images show two unfinished pontail marks, indicating a manufacture date of sometime in the late Victorian period, circa 1880-1910. CONDITION: MINT 9.6 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of play or wear of any kind. With the aid of a bright light and lens I can see some tiny, shallow as-mades that are readily visible in the pictures. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 26.47mm or 1.047" at the equator. | |||||
