Here's a huge example of one of the older German handmades: the PANELED ONIONSKIN. the base glass is clear with two opposing panels of white overlay with blue spots that alternate with two opposing panels of yellow with red spots. One of the pontail marks is melted to near oblivion and the other is exquisitely ground with a shallow pull-out depression in the center. All this helps to date the marble to sometime during the mid nineteenth century, circa 1850-1880--very old.
CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) 8.99 The surface has a nice shine with just the slightest trace of wear that is mostly visible in the third and fourth pictures. The only as-made anomoly I can find is a pull-out right in the center of the ground and faceted pontail mark--second picture. There are no bruises, nicks, dings, pinpricks or anything else. I've seen many marbles sold as mint that weren't anywhere near as nice as this one. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 45.92mm or 1.806" at the equator. | |||||
