Talk about RARE: this is the only example of one of these that I have ever seen, much less owned. From the unfinished pontail marks, the manufacture date can be estimated to be during the late Victorian era, circa 1880-1910. The style of the SOLID CORE and the character of the outer ribbons are similar to those made during this period for the British gameboard market. But, the outstanding charactoristic of this marble that makes it so extremely rare is the dark yellow glass. Yellow is only exceeded in it's rarity by possibly red in the so very few colored glass swirl marbles that were ever made.
CONDITION: NEAR MINT 8.8 Using a bright light and lens, I can only find a few, three, maybe four, tiny pinpricks, as well as, the slightest whisper of pocket wear. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 16.01mm or 0.631" at the equator. | |||||
