The base glass is clear with a mustard-yellow skin wrapped all the way around and just below the surface, then there are four panels of green stripes that run from pole to pole alternating with panels of pink. As you can see in four of the six views a portion of the colors have shrunken slightly toward the core.
One of the pontail marks is exquisitely ground and the other is a pig-tail melted to oblivion. This suggest the marble was one of the earlier glass marbles ever made, circa 1850-1870. CONDITION: MINT 9.6 The surface is wet and shiny and the pontail marks are as clean as the day they were made. I found two pinprick like places that look like surface air bubbles to me. One can be seen on the right edge of the second and fifth pictures, and the other is shown dead center of the sixth image. Looks like a new marble which is remarkable after being around 150 years You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 17.38mm or 0.684" at the equator. | |||||
