Here is a cute little German Handmade that is just a fine piece of eye-candy. I've listed this jewell as a PEEWEE although it doesn't quite meet the requirements, just 21/1000" over the official limit, but it still sits well in a PeeWee display. Some of you PeeWee collectors may not be as discerning as others, especially as hard it is to find them in this condition.
The amost perfectly designed yellow web at the core of a crystal clear base glass is surrounded on the surface by three sets each of alternating white and translucent red bands running from pole to pole. One pontail mark is a melted pig-tail and the other is exquisitly ground to a smooth finish, which gives evidence that the marble was made in the early period of handmade glass marbles, circa 1850-1880--some of the first glass marbles ever made. CONDITION: MINT/NEAR MINT 9.3-8.9 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of play or wear; even the pontail marks are as clean as the day they were made. There is a single flake with accompanying sub-surface moon visible in the center of the second picture that looks as-made to me, but possibly not. I didn't even know it was there until I had taken these pictures. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 13.24mm or 0.521" at the equator. | |||||
