The diversity of colors in this old J-coat must have challenged the artist's palate--he even resorted to adding aventurine to one of the green stripes, best seen in the center of the first picture. Along with all of the others there is true black, probably more rare than the aventurine.
The marble is a little wider than it is tall, and closer to 13/16" than it is to 25/32". The colors are a little shrunken on one side and the entire pattern is encased in an exceptionally clear base glass. Both pontail marks are unfinished. One with a very clean break mark and the other a nice melted pig-tail. All this is evidence that the marble was made during the late Victorian period, circa 1880-1910. CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.8 or better. PRISTINE. Just like the day it was made--a true museum quality marble. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 20.41mm or 0.803" at the equator. | |||||
