Here is a member of a group of some of the most popular marbles ever produced: The Akro Agate POPEYE. This one comes in forest green, eggyolk yellow and of course the defining white wispy strands all in a clear base glass with an abundance of tiny bubbles, only one of which, thankfully nearly made it to the surface. Most of the white wispy threads have congealed to a near solid white corkscrew wich I guess would allow one to describe it as a tri-colored snake--I'm sure it would fit well in either collection slot.
The little eyelash-like marks are present at the poles, indicating the marble was made prior to the so-called "Freeze" improvement of 1922 which allowed the manufacture of the marbles without these marks. Another great feature of this marble is the 3/4" shooter. I need to say here that most of the measurements I have taken around the marble, using digital calipers, is 0.750 to 0.751; however, there is a place where I measured 0.747 which is just a hair less than the full 3/4" Finally, this gorgeous example, even after 100 years, is still in exquisite mint condition. CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface is wet and shiny as a mint marble should be. All I can find is the afore-mentioned single tiny bubble that almost made it to the surface and the glass collapsed around it leaving a melted dimple-like depression shown near the center of the second picture.
