I've been looking for quite a while now for one of these, an Akro Agate Carnelian Oxblood, in this size and condition. At slightly under 5/8" and in gorgeous MINT condition, these have become extremely hard to find. This is also one of the early examples, manufactured sometime before 1922, as the so-called "pre-Freeze" marks indicate.
I labeled this as a Carnelian Oxblood and in hand it appears to have the Akro Carnelian color, translucent brown; but under bright lights, and these enlarged pictures, it seems to have a bit more of an orange cast. I'll have to leave that judgement up to you. The value has never, in my experience, been affected by the difference. CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of play or wear. All I can find with the aid of a bright light and lens are two tiny melted dimples, one of which is visible in the center of the fourth picture. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 15.63mm or 0.615" at the equator. | |||||
