With outer lines that resemble a gooseberry, and a bright yellow translucent solid core that is surrounded by alternating bands of red/orange and green bands, we have as the title says: a BANDED SOLID CORE Swirl.
With a base glass this clear and colors this bright, I can usually assume that the marble was manufactured during the later Victorian era; however, the melted pigtail pontail mark on one end, and the other exquisitely ground, I have to date the marble to the earlier period of glass marble history, circa 1850-1870.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.8 or better. The surface is wet and shiny without the slightest evidence of wear of any kind. Neither can I find any as-made flaws, even using a bright light and a jeweler's loupe, which is remarkable for a marble of this vintage. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 18.20mm or 0.716" at the equator. | |||||
