Any Akro Agate Popeye shooter is hard to find at best, and a full 3/4" example is truly rare; but one that is just a hair short of 25/32", is a near giant and almost unheard of. On top of that is one of the most sought after color schemes of the two color Popeyes: Red and Blue, it almost seams like having found the Ark of the Covenant. Also, on top of all that is the absolutely wonderful MINT condition. Now we're getting down to near one of a kind. I've had far more Christensen Guineas, Peltier Golden Rebels, and any other Akro you want to name, than I have these large Red and Blue Popeyes.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 All I can find, using a jeweler's loupe and a bright light, are a couple of pinpoint sized dimples with melted edges on a superior wet shiny surface that resembles a brand new marble more than it does a 100 year old play toy from the earliest part of the 20th century. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 19.75mm or 0.777" at the equator. | |||||
