Here we have an old German handmade CLEARIE made of a beautiful forest green glass with a heavy dose of medium MICA flakes that seem to be applied to an invisible ghost core rather than the usual just below the surface location--best seen in the fifth picture. The first picture shows an exquisitely ground pontail mark, but the second, showing the opposite end of the marble, reveals that there really isn't a pontail mark. It looks like one end of the cane, either the beginning or the end, from which the marble was cut. Click on the first picture for a greatly enlarged view.
The ground pontail mark indicates that the marble was made in the earlier period of the history of glass marbles, circa 1850-1870. CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.8 or even better. I can find no flaws, or signs of play or wear of any kind. Remarkable for a childs toy made of glass over 150 years ago. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 20.89mm or 0.822" at the equator. | |||||
