Wow! This guy is almost desparate to be black. This is the darkest purple I've ever seen from Akro Agate. This exceptionally dark purple and yellow POPEYE has to be a rare one, when any color purple Popeye is hard to find.
The clear base glass is nearly filled with the defining white wispy threads but provide a wide window to the interior. The, again, exceptionally dark purple and eggyolk corkscrews meander around the surface about a full turn and a half creating singular example of one of Akro Agates most popular collectables. CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) 8.9 It's so hard not to call this one mint, but there is a tiny fingernail shaped pinprick that you can see near the center of the sixth picture that actually shows worse than it is--it may or may not be as-made. Some of the pictures show a depression, but the best view of it is near the center of the second picture, it turns out to be part of the cutoff, or seam. Also, and finally, the only other thing I can find is under a very powerful 20x lens: There seems to be some dust or something that has kept the marble from having the wet look expected of a mint marble--could be some ash floating around in the factory when the marble was made? I don't know. Made way before my time. I've seen many marbles listed as mint that weren't near as nice as this one. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 16.02mm or 0.631" at the equator. | |||||
