The base glass is an opaque Jet black with white and yellow bands/ribbons, mysteriously dubbed an INDIAN SWIRL by collectors. At well under 1/2", even at it's widest point, this is a true PEEWEE by anybody's standard. With the emmergence of new collectors to the ever-growing marble community, most of the old German handmades, in anything like mint condition, are getting to be very hard to find. INDIAN SWIRLS have always been in a class by themselves and have always been found to be scarce Those of this tiny size are remarkable to find in any condition.
The pontail marks are well made and unfinished, indicating the marble was made sometime during the late Victorian era, circa 1880-1910. These were probably made as part of the game board market that was very popular in Great Brittain during this period. CONDITION: MINT 9.4 The shiny surface shows no sign of play or wear, but there are some tiny, pinprick size, open air bubbles here and there, and examination with a bright light and lens, or these enlarging images, clearly show them to be as-made during their manufacture process. Further testimony to their lack of use is the perfectly clean pontail marks, fifth and sixth pictures. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 12.26mm or 0.483" at the equator. | |||||
