I think illusive is a good start on the description of this beauty. I've looked for years to find a RED LATTICINIO of this size, a little closer to 13/16" than it is to 25/32", and in gorgeous mint condition.
The pontail marks are unfinished: one a very small melted pig-tail, and the other a nice clean break. The unfinished pontails, the notably clear base glass, and the exceptional bright colors all combine to tell us that this marble was made in Germany during the late Victorian era, circa 1880-1910, for shipment to England. Most of the so-called "ENGLISH STYLE" handmades were made for the gameboard market that was so popular in England at the time. CONDITION: MINT 9.6 Wet shiny surface with absolutely no sign of wear what-so-ever. Even the pontail marks are as clean as the day they were made. There are three small surface, clearly as-made, air bubbles. One is shown twice: about 9 o'clock in the first picture, and about 7 o'clock in the third. Another is shown at about 7 o'clock right by the red ribbon in the fourth picture. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 20.42mm or 0.804" at the equator. | |||||
