Here's a rather large, just under an inch, old German handmade marble from the end of the 19th century. The base glass is crystal clear with a moderate amount of tiny bubbles floating around throughout. At the core are four multi-colored ribbons running from pole to pole: two are opposite each other and are made of red, green, blue and white bands and stripes, and are separated by two others that are comprised of transparent blue, red, and yellow. Collectors call these DIVIDED RIBBON CORE swirls. Those with four ribbons are a bit less common than the three ribbon examples.
The intensity of the colors as well as the fact that both of the pontaill marks are unfinished, help us to determine a manufacture date of circa 1880-1910. CONDITION: MINT 9.4 The surface is wet and shiny and I can find no evidence of play or wear of any kind; even the spin marks are easily visible and the pontail marks are as clean as the day they were made. All I can find at all are the leading edge of three or four pinpoint sized, clearly as-made, air bubbles have made it to the surface. All of the remaining bubbles you see in the pictures are beneath the surface. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 23.94mm or 0.942" at the equator. | |||||
