It's rather funny. I didn't even think of this marble as a Popeye until I started taking these pictures. I bought it as a THREE-COLOR-AUGER which is a rather rare marble in it's own right. I see now that besides the red and yellow corkscrews that follow the white auger, there is also the white wispy threads running through the crystal clear base glass that perfectly define the Akro Agate POPEYE. So, we have a delightful combination of the two. The red and yellow colors are admitedly the more common of the Popeye family, but the pattern is scarce and a great find for collectors of the species. Another feature that all high-end collectors are concerned about is the near perfect mint plus condition which is hard to find no matter what type of marble you are looking for.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.8-9.9 I hardliy ever give a marble this high of a rating, but this one deserves it. The surface has the glossy wet shine of a brand new marble, and all I can find is a single tiny, shallow melted dimple that must be searched for diligently to find.
