Here is one that run into now and again as I'm looking for West Virginia marbles. This is from one of their biggest and most successful companies: the Alley Agate Co., this example, with red and yellow swirls on a blue base glass, is known to collectors as the SUPERMAN.
CONDITION: MINT(-) 9.1 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of play or wear of any kind at all. There is only one thing wrong with this marble, and that is not evident without magnification and extra lighting, and that is: some very short, shallow annealing lines that are formed as the marble is cooled too rapidly, so part of the manufacture process and clearly as-made. I think that every one of these marbles that I have seen have had these annealing lines, I am sure there must be some without, but not that I have seen. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 15.97mm or 0.628" at the equator. | |||||
