Blue and white spots and streaks on a jet black base glass make for a bit different sort of old German handmade than we are accustomed to seeing. This one is an End Of Day INDIAN and are indeed a rather rare find. With both pontail marks unfinished, I believe it is safe to say that this is a product of the Late Victorian period, circa 1870-1910.
CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) 8.9 I cannot see where there has been any play or use of the marble at all. There is some shallow, nearly microscopic pitting that shows up in the first picture that looks as if the glass may have been over heated and a phenomenon known as fizz-bubbles occured--maybe. The only thing that really keeps the marble from a mint rating is the dirt in the pontail marks which certainly did not occur at the factory. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 17.29mm or 0.681" at the equator. | |||||
