Here is a huge bubbly clear glass marble with three wide ribbons in the core: one of green, red, and yellow, and two with red, white, and blue. All are backed with solid opaque white. There are three sets of yellow lattice ribbons just below the surface that mirror those in the core.
One of the pontail marks is melted to near oblivion and the other is exquisitely ground, which helps us to date the marble to that of the earliest of glass marbles, circa 1850-1870. The finding of any marble from this time period is truly remarkable; and one in this mammoth size and most excellent MINT condition is singularly significant to the marble collecting community. CONDITION: MINT 9.5-9.6 The surface is bright and shiny with no signs of play or wear. I can see a few pinpoints about the size of a grain of Kosher salt, and there are what look like the leading edges of small bubbles that nearly made it to the surface, but this is all insignificant and clearly as-made during the manufacturing process.
