This is one of the largest CAC slags that I can remember ever having. At 51/64" it is a little closer to 13/16" than it is to 25/32". The gorgeous dark ruby red glass shows the degree of skill that only the glass makers for Christensen Agate, and the Cambridge Glass Co. had. Both used the same artists to mix the colors for their products.
I'm going to use this rare example to plea my case for the difference between what many are calling a CAC slag that are , in my opinion STRIPED TRANSPARENTS--See the seventh and 8th pictures--sorry but right now I don't have any red examples; and a true slag, such as the single stream example that you see here--pictures 1-6. Right now I am not discussing the hand gathered varieties with the "9" and "tail", which are an entirely different and earlier marble. The STRIPED TRANSPARENTs are a transparent colord glass marble with stripes of opaque white, or another opaque color, on or very near the surface only--there are some very rare examples where the opaque color is also on the interior of the marble, but these are referred to as SUBMARINES. The SLAGS are a single stream of a transparent colored glass with opaque white swirled in and the white will be on the surface and in almost all cases, also inside the marble. Both are MACHINE MADE. CONDITION: 9.7 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of wear of any kind what-so-ever. All I can find with a bright light and loupe are some tiny melted dimples that are clearly as-made and visible in the first through sixth images. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 20.32mm or 0.800" at the equator. | |||||
