With the exploding popularity of West Virginia Swirls, I have been forced to learn the identification of the manufacturers of so many of what I used to just describe as just that: WEST VIRGINIA SWIRLS. I've really been working hard at it, and my sources are, for the most part, inclined to agree that this is a product of the Heaton Agate Co., or possibly Alley. The base glass is a transparent green with bluish tinted white swirls and lines of horsehair, with more of a red tint than that of other manufacturer's, oxblood on and below the surface and pretty much visible from all aspects of the marble.
I don't know if it helps or not, but the last picture is taken with a back-light. Rather an eye-catching marble in almost any group I've included it. As always, if there is anyone out there who disagrees with my assessment of this marble, please let me know and I will be happy to update the information. CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface is wet and shiny with no evidence of play or wear at all. Using a bright light and printer's loupe, I could only find a single, clearly as-made, flea about the size of a grain of Kosher salt. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 16.29mm or 0.641" at the equator. | |||||
