This is another one that is a bit difficult to describe. It looks to me like the marble is made from a variety of glass types. There is, of course, the famous and unique Akro OXBLOOD on the surface, and then riding next to it is the usual translucent vaseline glass that the sixth picture shows coming through from a back-lit UV light. But, there is also an opaque CUSTARD looking glass with a different "glow" to it altogether. I don't know that it is actually CUSTARD glass, but the UV glow, caused uranium oxide in both glass types, is a bit different from the Vaseline that is used in the normal every day making of the AID family of marbles. Also, vaseline glass is translucent where the custard variety is more opaque.
At any rate, we have a very unique and rare member of the Akro OXBLOOD family that glows from it's UV reactance, and is in the highly sought after 3/4" SHOOTER size. A remarkable marble for anyone's high-end collection.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of wear at all. All I can find are some very tiny needle size points in some of the oxblood--mostly seen in the third picture. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 19.14mm or 0.753" at the equator. | |||||
