Here's one of the POPEYEs that you may wait around for a lifetime to find. The number of CORKSCREWs on this beauty is outrageous and make a full two turns around the surface. The abundance of colors start with: translucent orange, then two green corks, a lovely milk chocolate brown, and eggyolk yellow that shows purple under a UV light which usually signifies cadmium in the recipe; also, the brown and yellow is separated by a creamy white corkscrew. Also, when viewed through a lens, there are blends that develop into even more colors.
The window to the base glass is mainly covered by a wash of the translucent orange, but there is enough clear space to see that the white wispy strands have been congealed to a tornadic formation. What an extremely unique example of a Popeye this is!!! CONDITION: MINT 9.6 The surface is nearly perfect with no sign of play or wear and only a single needlepoint size dimple. It is a little out of round however, but I didn't notice it until I was taking measurement. I've taken six rotated views of the marble so you can see that it doesn't amount to much, especially on such a one as this. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 17.30mm or 0.681" at the equator. | |||||
