Red and blue stripes and streaks cover a white blanket, 'Skin', which in turn covers a clear base glass forming what collectors call an ONIONSKIN SWIRL. The basal pontail mark is not ground but is the result of a perfectly executed break and the other is a melted pig-tail. I'm wanting to say this is one of the older marbles, but the unfinished basal pontail mark says that the manufacture date was during the later period of German glass marble production, circa 1870-1910.
CONDITION: MINT(-) to NEAR MINT(+) I can't find any evidence of play or wear, but the surface doesn't have the wet shiny look of a mint marble. Close examination with a bright light and a jeweler's loupe reveal some microscopic pitting, I guess you'd call it, on most of the surface. Much too minute to have been caused by any kind of impact or wear, it looks more like there was a lot of ash, or grit, or something in the air when the marble was still hot and in the finishing process--just a guess.
