I remember, back in my early days of collecting marbles, when I would identify these as "Red MFC Slags" until I found out that MFC did not have red in their pallate. What this is: is a red CAC HAND GATHERED RED SLAG; some of their earliest marbles. These are not only some of CAC's earliest efforts, they are some of the earliest American "transitional" marbles, made from a single stream of transparent red and opaque white glass that is sheared by hand and rolled into a marble shape using a hand held pontail and the help of the CAC slag marble machine; therefore "transitional" meaning made during the period of completely handmade and purely machine made marbles.
CONDITION: MINT 9.4 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of play or wear of any kind. There are a number, of clearly as-made, pinhole sized melted dimples, and in one place, shown in the fifh and sixth pictures, are a couple of black flakes, definitely just below the surface. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 14.93mm or 0.587" at the equator. | |||||
