Here is a beautifully colorful example of nineteenth century art work that includes most every color available at the time, including three double lines of super-rare pure black spaced evenly around the marble nearly creating individual panels. The pictures describe the colors better than I could, because I'd probably miss some.
The pontail marks are unfinished. That, the brilliant colors, and the perfectly clear base glass underlying all the stripes give us a good indication of a manufacture date of the late Victorian period, nearing the end of German handmade marbles, circa 1880-1910. CONDITION: MINT(-) 9.4 The surface is wonderfully wet and shiny without a trace of wear; however you can see in the second and third pictures a circular crescent popout and a nearby tool mark--I believe they are as-made. These are so faint and shallow that I didn't notice them until I started the photographing process, then they showed up as much worse than the actually are. Some of you may call these types of marks cause for a near mint grading--feel free to do so. I believe the marble left the factory in this condition. The surface is imaculately clean including the pontail marks which look as the did the day they were made. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 20.02mm or 0.788" at the equator. | |||||
