Here's one that is about to join the engangered species list: An Antique German handmade PEPPERMINT SWIRL. This one is of the Joseph's Coat style, i.e., the bands are layed on the surface of a clear marble, as versus the banded opaque style where the colors were applied to the surface of a milk glass marble--those are extremely rare, I saw one once but I've never had the chance to own one--very few of these. The unfinished pontail marks tell us that the marble was made approximately during the late Victorian era circa 1870-1910. That would go along with the tale that these Peppermints were made in Germany to honour the 100th birthday of the United States in 1876. Wow, that's only 100 years before my daughters were born! I must be getting old, because that makes this marble about 140. I wish I were in as good condition.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface is wet and shiny with no signs of play or wear. There is a circle reflection at about 7 o'clock in the second picture that only showed up after I took this picture. Also there is a reflection that is shown in the sixth picture that disappears as the marble is rotated under a light. Can't say the cause. My guess would be some sort of cooling anomaly.
