The base glass is a cloudy, very translucent, see back-lighted sixth picture, white, with a cobalt blue corkscrew followed closely by a beautiful dark anemic oxblood forming what collectors know as an: Akro Agate BLUE OXBLOOD ACE. The little eyelash-like marks are present at the poles in both the blue and the oxblood, giving us a manufacture date of sometime prior to the Spring of 1922 when the so-called "Freeze improvement" was installed that effectively eliminated these marks from the production process, making this among some of Akro's earliest efforts in their marble making enterprise.
For Akro Agate followers, this is one of the most popular and hard to find out there, especially in this large 23/32" SHOOTER size, and even more so, the most excellent WET MINT condition. CONDITION: WET MINT 9.8 I can find no anomalies to describe on this pristine MUSEUM ready piece of antique glass history. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 18.11mm or 0.713" at the equator. | |||||
