Here is a monstrous example of a beautifully designed WHITE LATTICINIO SWIRL. The base glass is quite clear with lots of tiny bubbles. At the core is a nice thick and tight latticinio web, and the whole thing is surrounded by a closely fitted cage of eight vibrant tri-colored ribbons with a wonderful twist as evidenced by the first image.
The pontail marks are as clean as the day they were made, one of which is exquisitely ground and the other melted to near oblivion. This helps to give us a manufacture date of circa 1850-1870. The period of some of the first glass marbles ever made.
CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) 8.7 There is a nice shine to the surface, but close inspection with a bright light and lense reveals some very light, almost microscopic wear. There are also a very small inclusion visible at the left edge of the sixth picture and some reflections that appear and disapear as the marble is rotated under a light and lense. Very nice for it's size and age considering most of these giants found usually require polishing. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 51.09mm or 2.011" at the equator. | |||||
