Although it does present with a bit of a blue hue that is cause by the refraction of the outer ribbons, the base glass is transparent clear with a fair amount of tiny bubbles. At the core is a tight lattice web, and the entire marble is caged with six equally spaced translucent tri-color ribbons running from pole to pole. The pontail marks are both unfinished indicating the marble was made during the latter part of the German handmades period, circa 1870-1910.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface is wet and shiny looking with no sign of play or wear. I can find a single pinprick that may or may not be as made and is so insignificant that these enlarged pictures failed to find it even with six unique views; I take that back--look at the extreme outer edge of the fifth image. The pontail marks are as clean as the day they were made. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 17.32mm or 0.682" at the equator. | |||||
