Here's one of today's rarest and most popular old German handmades on everyone's wish list: the GOOSEBERRY. All of the gooseberrys were made during the nineteenth century and the vast majority of them were made of dark amber glass with the defining white outer lines. In a very few cases, and I mean very few, other transparent base colors were used; I am aware of green, blue, clear, and probably the rarest of all: yellow. For some reason, transparent yellow has always been a hard color to find in antique marbles, whatever the design used. The gooseberry in transparent yellow is a very hard marble to find, and it's extraordinary to find one in this wonderful MINT condition.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface is strikingly wet and shiny with no sign of play or wear of any kind. All I can find with a bright light and a printer's loupe, is a couple of clearly as-made needle-points and a shallow, superficial tool mark. You'll look long and hard to find a gooseberry, or any other marble in condition as good as this, much less better. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 14.76mm or 0.581" at the equator. | |||||
