Here's an excellent example of, what has become lately, a very hard to find old handmade HOLLOW STEELIE. These were made of a flat piece of steel and beaten out until the corners could be closed into a round marble leaving them with a weight that was comparable to the glass marbles of the same size. Since they didn't have the unfair weight advantage of the solid steel version, usually ball bearings, this made them acceptable to use in the shooting type of games. This is just my thoughts, but I doubt that a tremendous amount of these were made simply because: since the didn't have the weight advantage of the solid steel marbles any longer, and they certainly didn't have the eye-appeal of the glass marbles, who would really want them. Their only real advantage was they couldn't be broken or scarred like the glass counterparts.
CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) The surface still has a nice shine to it and I can find no signs of play or wear, but there seems to be a bit of patina from the aging process, as well as couple of spots that may be rust--maybe.
