To the best of my knowledge, this is one of the Akro Agate OXBLOOD BRICKs that they produced sometime after WWI. The first of the OXBLOOD glass recipies was originated by the M.F. Christensen Company around the turn of the 20th century, Financial insecurities forced them out of business around 1915 and subsequently the Navarre Glass co. purchased the recipe, and then a little later was repurchased by Akro Agate. This is one of the marbles made using their new recipe. I would guess from the pattern of the glass it may have been made on the single-stream machine that Akro used for their slags.
At any rate, aside from the guesswork, this one of the earlier marbles made in the United States and is exceptionally rare, especially in this very large size and wonderful wet mint condition.
CONDITION: WET MINT 9.8 or better. I can find nothing to describe about this marble other than it's exceptionally wet, shiny, PRISTINE, surface. This is a true MUSUEM piece. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 21.38mm or 0.842" at the equator. | |||||
