Translucent green and opaque eggyolk-yellow corkscrews wind around a crystal clear base glass that is liberally filled with the POPEYE-defining white wispy threads. Just as todays marketing uses popular singers and sports heros to promote their products, Akro Agate, in the late 1920s, used Comic stip and cartoon hero POPEYE to promote their previously marketed TRI-ONYX CORKSCREWs. These became, and remain, some of Akro Agate's most popular marbles ever produced. This is just one example of an almost unlimited number of combinations that were produced, but like all good collectibles, are becoming more and more hard to find, especially in this wonderful wet mint condition.
CONDITION: WET MINT(9.8) Beautiful wet shiny surface with no signs of play or wear of any kind. This one doesn't even have any of the tiny melted dimples that are so prevalent on most marbles. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 16.00mm or 0.630" at the equator. | |||||
