DESCRIPTION: Here's a well-designed old-timer that dates back to the beginning of the end of handmade glass marble manufacturing in Germany, circa 1870-1910.
Colorful outer ribbons decorate the surface of the lightly tinted base glass with more than its share of tiny interior bubbles. They also reflect the handsome twist of the tight, yellow latticinio web at the core. As you may be able to tell, from the other jumbo-sized marbles I've had on this website, these huge old toe-breakers are getting snatched up nearly as fast as I can get them listed. Consequently, I am discovering their availability to be considerably harder to find, especially one in such excellent condition as this. I see lots of marbles described as mint; not many are as nice as this. CONDITION: NEAR MINT(++) The surface is shiny and bright, and, in hand, I can find no evidence of play or wear at all; however, with magnification, I can find some ever so slight wear in the form of faint scratches, so faint as to be invisible to the naked eye. The first and last pictures show a shallow, creased cold-roll line that runs less than halfway around the marble. And as the unfinished pontail marks are as clean as the day they were made, that's about it. OBSERVATION: I see lots of marbles described as mint that are not near as nice as this. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 40.13mm or 1.580" at the equator. | |||||
