The marbles we now call Popeyes, Akro Agate first marketed as the TRI-ONYX CORKSCREW. They printed "Popeye The Saylor" on the boxes containing this particular type of marble to encourage sales.
The crystal clear base glass with opaque white wispy threads, the defining feature of the POPEYE marble, usually are accompanied by two, and sometimes more, different colored corkscrews--this example sports orange and green, while maybe not the rarest color combination produced; Still, and exceedingly hard to find marble in such exquisite condition.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 or better. The surface is wet and shiny, and I can find no evidence of play or wear even when using a bright light and 10x jeweler's loupe. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 15.99mm or 0.629" at the equator. | |||||
