Here's a real beauty from the long ago, circa 1850-1870. It's a strain on the imagination to realize how a childs toy could in remaind in such pristine condition for over 150 years. The dark amber clearie into which the large mica flakes are infused is one of the more popular colors of the micas as well. The exquisitely ground pontail helps give us the age of the marble dating it all the way back to the beginning of glass marbles in history. The other pontail mark is a twisted pigtail. Simply put, this is a marble that belongs in a serious high-end collection. Truely magnificent.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 Extraordinarily wet shiny surface, especially for a handmade. I can find absolutely no sign of wear at all on this marble, and only a couple of very tiny melted dimples that are clearly as-made. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 16.67mm or 0.656" at the equator. | |||||
