According to the recipe used in creating glass, exposure to UV lighting may cause many different reactions. A luminous green glow, a feature of Vaseline glass, indicates that uranium oxide is part of the mix. Because of its radioactive element, needed for the war effort, the US government, in the 1940s, banned the use of uranium oxide.
Akro Agate used Vaseline glass for the base glass of their ADE family of marbles, i.e., LEMONADE, LIMEADE, CHERRYADE, etc., some of Akro's most collectible marbles. With the addition of OXBLOOD to these already beautiful and celebrated marbles, they are among the most treasured in the marble collecting world. The thick, rich application of the famous OXBLOOD makes a superb complement to the bright glow of this most excellent example of a LEMONADE OXBLOOD. CONDITION: MINT 9.6 The surface is wet and shiny with no sign of wear at all. A small cluster of three or four very small needle-point sized pricks can be seen near the center of the fourth and fifth pictures. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 15.81mm or 0.622" at the equator. | |||||
