Until recently, I haven't seen one of these old Akro Agate CROWs in a long time. The last time I saw Akro Crows around and about was during the mid-1990s. I had six or seven of them, all in the neighborhood of 3/4". I've never seen one this large.
The base glass is transparent clear with a large pinkish/orange brushed-type patch that does not entirely cover the surface. When viewed from a particular perspective, The colored glass, the remaining clear on the surface, even the shadows beneath, constructs a somewhat fanciful CROW image. It seems the smaller versions may require a less fertile imagination to see the crow than this one. The first and second images show the so-called pre-Freeze, eyelash-like, marks; so the manufacture date is sometime before the spring of 1922. I suspect earlier, even than that. CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface has a nice wet shine. I have searched repeatedly with a bright light and lens, but I just can't find anything wrong with this marble. Look very closely at the first and second pictures. These images show microscopic striations of the glass itself.--roller marks? Not an anomaly, in my opinion.
