I need not describe all of the colors shown here; the pictures are accurate and sufficient for the task. The base of this old German handmade beauty is transparent-clear. Vibrant ribbons and streaks, separated by narrow empty spaces, adorn the entire surface, i.e., the definition of a Joseph's Coat marble. As some of the ribbons are "jelly" or of a transparent-translucent color, they can give the appearance of a colored base glass that is, as stated, transparent clear.
In the manner of EOD, End Of Day, style marbles, some of the streaks run from pole to pole, and others only partway--an exceedingly rare style for a Joseph's Coat.
Finally, some ribbons, especially the "jellys," have microscopic bubbles resembling aventurine particles. Sorry, but this marble doesn't have any.
CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) The surface has the wet shiny look of a new mint marble and presents as such in hand. It cannot, however, withstand the scrutiny of a microscopic inspection. A jeweler's loupe reveals some very light pocket-wear in a small area; too light for my camera to capture. Also, the fifth picture shows a scuff mark about halfway between the south pole and the center of the marble. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 22.98mm or 0.905" at the equator. | |||||
