Akro Agate: MINT(+) 49/64" CHERRYADE (UV)

Item# GM2468
According to the ingredients in the glass recipe, many types of reactions occur when a marble is exposed to UV, ultraviolet lighting. The Akro Agate ADE family of marbles has a base glass of UV reactive vaseline glass; usually, a cloudy, translucent chartreuse color that, because of the uranium oxide in the recipe, will turn a glowing bright green color when exposed to UV lighting. Other ingredients cause other reactions. Of course, there are exceptions to the rule. The base glass of the CARNELIAN ADE is a cloudy brownish color that glows green but much less violently than the others.
Akro Ades are decorated in bright colors, including green swirls or corkscrews with a LIMEADE, yellow with a LEMONADE, red for the CHERRYADE, etc. And another exception, the base glass has a somewhat brownish hue, as with the CARNELIAN ADEs. But, in this case, the brownish base glass glows the lovely bright green as expected from an ADE. The swirl itself is a darker, Red Delicious Apple, red than usual for a Cherryade, more of a cherry color.
I usually have a complete assortment of the ADE marbles around here, including some near one inch in diameter and a fluctuating number of the 5/8", player size, varieties. Which brings us to a peculiarity of the Akro ADE family of marbles: the difficulty of finding the 3/4" shooter size. One possible reason could be their popularity as a shooter caused the supply to get used up before collectors had a chance at them.
So, this specimen is larger than most, brighter than most, and, even rarer still, is the excellent high mint condition. Considering the scarcity of mint marbles now days, especially this style, size, and age, it is also better than most.

CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 The surface is wet and shiny, showing no signs of play or wear. There are two small melted dimples; the smallest shows up in the second and third pictures and the larger in the fourth and sixth. The dimple shown in the third picture resembles a sparkle, but it is only a reflection of the light source from the edge of the dimple.
