DESCRIPTION: I sold my last one several years ago, but a few have turned up in some collections purchased in recent months.
I didn't realize how scarce the older hand-ground versions had become until I began sorting these. The evidence of hand grinding is the myriad of tiny facets covering the entire surface of the marble. Some craftsmen ground these agates to such near perfection that it is often necessary to rotate the marble under a light while viewing with a lens to see these facets. It is only then that a slight wavering, showing the surface of the marble is not perfectly smooth, can be seen. CONDITION: NEAR MINT(+) When I first inspected this marble, I was sure it was dead mint until I posted these pictures and viewed it under the lens. I can now see some light wear in the form of faint scratches. There are no impact marks or the like; more as if it had been carried around in some lad's pocket for a very long time. I am sure the hairline cracks are naturally formed faults in the agate's source. You may click here to view the grading system I use. Size 19.25mm or 0.758" at the equator. | |||||
