FYI: The Peltier Glass Company marketed these marbles as the NATIONAL ONYX. Collectors called them slags, probably because, like all other slags, they only came in transparent colors with white swirls. Produced in a wide variety of transparent colors, they differ from other slags by exhibiting the familiar feathered surface pattern unique to Peltier.
Inside the marble, the white swirls meander through the marble similar to any slag; but as they reach the surface, the seemingly solid swirl turns sideways, revealing they are instead thinly layered ribbons in parallel proximity to each other, presenting their edges as if they were thin white striations, i.e. feathered. DESCRIPTION: This base glass is a beautiful medium-dark amber with the white feathered swirls exclusive to the Peltier National Onyx. The first picture shows the parallel proximity of the ribbons as they fade back into the amber glass. CONDITION: MINT 9.6 The surface is wet and shiny with only the faintest whisper of ultra-lite wear and invisible to the naked eye or even these enlarged pictures. There are a couple of melted dimples and two tiny open air bubbles. The larger bubble you see in the pictures area below the surface. You may click here to view the grading system I use.
