AKRO AGATE:

MINT(+) 11/16" GREEN/YELLOW/POWDER BLUE HYBRID POPEYE

Item# GM2523
DESCRIPTION: The first picture shows a lot about this marble. The yellow cork is opaque, it doesn't pass light, and the green is translucent, the hue appears darker where it covers an opaque color, the yellow cork or the whitey strands, and turns lighter as it reaches past its opaque backing.
The clear base glass has a narrow window to the interior where you can see the white wispy strands, as well as where a powder blue streak, probably from a previous run, seems to be mixed with the white as it peeks from beneath the green corkscrew.
The wispy strands define the marble as a Popeye, but it looks like they are packed so tight as to strike one as solid.
In the Spring of 1922, Akro Agate installed what is known as the "Freeze Improvement" to remove the cutoff marks that resembled little eyelashes from the ends of the marbles. Before that, the marbles showed the cutoff marks now referred to as "Pre-Freeze" marks. So, marbles with the marks were made before the Spring of 1922.
CONDITION: MINT(+) 9.7 or 9.8 I can't find anything to describe other than a bright shiny wet looking marble. The tiny bubbles you see in the pictures look like pinholes, but all are beneath the surface.
